The National Institute on Drug Development (NIDA) is preparing to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) aimed at supporting institutional research career development (K12) programs for clinician scientists focused on substance use and substance use disorder research. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations, public and private institutions of higher education, and federally recognized Native American tribal governments. While applications are not currently being accepted, potential applicants are encouraged to begin developing collaborations and projects in relevant research areas.

Description

The National Institute on Drug Development (NIDA) intends to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to support applications for institutional research career development (K12) programs that propose to support intensive supervised research training and career development experiences for clinician scientists (Scholars) leading to research independence in the area of substance use and substance use disorder research. Applications are not being solicited at this time. Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects. This NOFO will utilize the K12 activity code. Investigators are encouraged to consider applying to this NOFO for projects in NIDA's science areas including (but not limited to): neuroimaging, genetics, medication and treatment development, development of new and improved strategies to prevent substance use, neuroimmune signaling, neuropathology in brain systems, cognitive processes, population neuroscience, HIV and drugs of abuse, medication development, epidemiology, identifying the biological consequences of substance use and addiction across the lifespan, and implementation science. In addition, collaborative investigations combining expertise in substance use disorders, pain, or HIV will be encouraged, and these investigators should also begin considering applying for this application.
