Summary
The purpose of this grant is to enhance the capacity and capabilities of state human and animal food testing laboratories to support an integrated food safety system through prioritized sample testing, food defense preparedness, and method development. Eligible applicants include private and public institutions of higher education, nonprofit Native American tribal organizations, and various levels of government, provided they meet specific accreditation requirements. To apply, organizations must ensure they have the necessary ISO 17025 accreditation and, for certain tracks, a valid 20.88 agreement with the FDA prior to application.

Description
This cooperative agreement is intended to enhance the capacity and capabilities of state human and animal food testing laboratories in support of an integrated food safety system (IFSS). This is achieved through prioritized sample testing and food defense preparedness in the areas of microbiology, chemistry, and radiochemistry, as well as method development and capacity/capability development projects that support and expand food safety and food defense testing.
